Extraterrestrials Trying to Escape From A Soda Can

from Array by Max Kutner

about

Written on January 5, 2018.

This was an improvisation initially based around a fretboard shape I'd come up with during practice. That being said, I feel that the instrument/performance are one half of the equation here with other being the mixing choices I made in Audacity.

I was messing around with notch filtering which eventually resulted in a resonant frequency always fighting the track and I decided that this could be interpreted as another voice in some weird dialogue between the guitar and the space it inhabited.

The title reflects this aspect and also the shrill, kinda metallic world created by the ring-mod combined with the tinny resonance that's always there.

I used a custom Baritone guitar that was made from Sears and Warmoth parts and originally belonging to the late composer, Art Jarvinen.

The ring-modulation and manipulation was achieved with an Electro-Harmonix Ring Thing.

Everything else was the result of messing around in Audacity.
